Further Information

I am interested in depicting figures emerging and disappearing from view, glimpses of fleeting moments. I go along the estuary, where I live, sketching cows and sea birds in the early morning. I draw figures turning, running or jumping, then I bring these things together in the paintings. Sometimes I use old photographs as a starting point, to reacquaint myself with half forgotten people and the feint echoes of memory.

My background is in the theatre. I’ve spent many years working as an actor and director. Directing theatre is like painting with light and figures, with words and sounds. I am interested in where figures are placed in space, where light catches water. I like to explore where theatre and other art forms meet, where different art practices interface. Sometimes I work in collaboration with artists from different disciplines. I am often involved in creating art /drama/ film events in an educational setting.

More recently I went to Colchester Art School and studied on the Foundation Course there.

Painting is a place where I can pursue my practice by myself.
